About Mario Otero:

New Mexico born and Texas bred, Mario Otero continues to distinguish himself as one of the elite steel string acoustic guitarist’s of our time. His adventurous spirit and captivating stage presence is accompanied by an original and inspired virtuosity.

Mario Otero fervently calls to mind the group La Vienta. With the great flamenco guitarist Stefan Schyga and Otero’s original touch, the group earned a Grammy nomination in 1994, and was at #17 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Charts. La Vienta performed from New York and San Francisco to sold out concert venues and never failing standing ovations.

As quoted by Jazz Times Magazine:

"The stated mission of LA VIENTA is to capture the feel of the desert southwest. Through the guitar-based compositions of Mario Otero and German born, Texas-Bred Stefan Schyga, the wide open romantic flavor is acheived with finesse. Many of LA VIENTA'S tunes are as light and ethereal as the wind which translates the band's Spanish Moniker".

Their music is still on the {Telarc Concord label}, and being sold in 28 countries around the globe. In 2002 La Vienta’s songs were released on Guitarra Romantica Vol.3 along with Paco de Lucia, Baden Powell, Carlos Santana and Pepe Romero. In 2008 La Vienta was invited to play with the great guitar legends of our time at Copper Mountain Colorodo on July 29 and 30. The venue was called Guitar Town.

On the bill were the greats: Joe Satriani, Tommy Emmanuel, Tim Reynolds, Joe Bonnamasa, Sonny Landreth, John Jorgenson and of course La Vienta.

As a soloist, Mario Otero performed at the “3rd Annual World On A String Guitar Festival” Along with the great brazilian guitarist’s Sergio and Odair Assad , Scottish born Classical guitariat David Russell and Mexico’s finest classical guitarist Rafael Jimenez, Mario Otero delivered and played to a sold out audience followed by a well deserved standing ovation.
